About S&K Plant Hire
In 2003 a twenty something Stuart Yuill accompanied by his dad Keith Yuill sat in the office of Andy Parnham the Construction Salesman of Ernest Does Ulting. Stuart and his dad Keith enquired about purchasing a New Holland Wheel Digger in order for Stuart to start his own plant hire company based in Maldon, Essex.
Stuart to this day is still unsure if Andy Parnham thought he was the real deal, having only a relatively small amount of experience operating the machines and none of actually running a plant hire company, was this meeting going to result in a sale. Over ten years down the road, with some risks taken and some important lessons learnt, S&K Plant is a well-known and reputable plant hire company. The success of this family-run business is largely down to the ongoing and invaluable support of Stuart’s parents, Keith Yuill and Glynis Yuill. They’ve been behind Stuart from the very beginning with Glynis since 2003 managing the finances for S&K Plant, both her and Keith also assisting in the important day-to-day running of the business.
Since 2003, S&K have bought the majority of their machines from Andy Parnham at Ernest Does, Andy even provided his daughter Lisa Parnham to Stuart after telling him to take her out for a drink. Lisa and Stuart have been together since 2012, the long standing joke being she was included instead of discount, however Stuarts argument is she is by far the most costly item that Andy will ever give to him.
Following the growth of S&K Plant, Stuart in 2009 started S&K Groundwork Solutions Ltd. This company provides groundwork’s and civil engineering services, both the company and clients benefit from using S&K machines on the projects it undertakes. The family-run aspect then increased as in April 2013 Mark Parnham, Andy Parnham’s son and Lisa’s brother was asked by Stuart to become the Group Manager and Company Engineer of S&K Groundwork Solutions Ltd. In early 2014 Lisa also joined S&K, assisting with procurement and business development. As much as being family and working together has it ups and downs, we’re all striving for the same thing which is to make S&K as successful as it can be.
On Sunday evenings when buckets suddenly need sorting, diggers need moving and excavators need loading, Stuart like most running their own business, he wishes sometimes for a Monday to Friday, nine to five job. These moments are short lived, as Stuart really wouldn’t however have it any other way. He has a real passion, interest and enthusiasm for plant and a copy of ‘Earthmovers’ is always kicking around the house opened on the latest new machine to hit the industry.
He was thrilled in June 2014 when he was invited to the New Holland Construction Plant in Lecce, Italy to offer valuable feedback on the postproduction of the New Holland Backhoe machine. He joined other industry professionals around the world test driving and looking over the future designs. As S&K Plant do have a strong interest in New Holland Backhoe machines, we’re very much looking forward to the new facelift in the future.
With the future in mind, our focus for S&K Plant is to continue to grow this family run business. Its primary focus will be purchasing and increasing plant available, this will enable the company to grow the numbers of machines on hire both operated and self-drive.
